About JKB
Jesus' Kid Brother is the hit new musical by
writers Brian and Mark Karmelich. JKB premiered in
Los Angeles to
rave reviews
and much success. The show
opened the 2006 season at the
International City Theatre in Long Beach in February,
again to
rave reviews.
In 2007 JKB was selected for two performances at
Stephen Schwartz's
Disney ASCAP Musical Theatre Workshop.
Jesus' Kid Brother tells the story of what it's like to
grow up the shadow of a famous sibling. In this case,
the famous sibling is Jesus Christ, and the younger brother
is "Larry".
All his life Larry wanted to be as good
as his famous brother, but could barely be noticed in Jesus' shadow.
Growing up, Jesus got straight A's in school, while Larry struggled.
Jesus was captain of the football team (never missed with his famous
Hail Mary pass), but Larry was inept at sports, and just about
everything else. Jesus cured the sick.
Larry felt sick. There was no way Larry could win.
Jesus' Kid Brother is also a story of forbidden love, between
the Jewish Larry and the Roman "Mary Pilate", daughter of Pontius Pilate.
This clever and truly hilarious "behind the scenes" look at the
New Testament bursts onto the stage with a fast-paced, catchy,
rock score that rivals the likes
of Rocky Horror Picture Show and Little Shop of Horrors,
filled with fun, danceable numbers brimming with memorable melodies.
Based on suggestions from Stephen Schwartz, Jason Alexander,
Paris Barclay, and others
at the 2007 ASCAP Workshop, the writers are actively fine tuning
the show in preparation for its next venue.
